OUR HISTORY

1960 – 1970

Our technical firm was founded in 1963 as an individual company. Founded by Giorgio Trippa, it takes its first steps in the world of mechanics thanks to the parallelogram drafting tables, the latest frontier of technology for designers in that period. In 1966 Eligio Longhi joined the company. He also gave the company his name, even if he left it in 1969.

In those years the company was mainly working on the equipment for mechanical work, there were no lathes and 5-axis milling machines and it was required a specially designed equipment to craft particularly complicated objects.

Progettazione meccanica a Bologna negli anni ’70 – Trippa e Longhi

In the ’70s the tools technological evolution greatly helped designers’ work. There arrived Pocket calculators, which replaced the cumbersome and complicated slide rules, and Olivetti computers.

Thanks to those jewels and to some calculation programs invented by Giorgio Trippa himself, it became possible to speed up all the processes necessary to create and draft a project.

1980 – 1990

Companies such as Corazza and Arcotronics, which wrote the history of mechanics in Bologna, were born between the end of the ’70s and the beginning of the ‘80s.

Our firm designed several machines for the production of condensers (Arcotronics), food production and packaging machines (Corazza).

Moreover, in that period entire wireproduction lines for various materials (metallic, wool and, great novelty, of nylon) were designed.

At that time, the main work was the design of the first transfer and assembly machines of Fimat, Viro and Giuliani. Those were machines used to assembly and process locks, padlocks and keys.

We also began to see an evolution of special machines, real tailor-made suits.

With the ’90s incoming, Trippa e Longhi bought new design weapons: the first computers.

Finally, workstations appeared with MS-DOS and UNIX. They were able to support the first Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) systems: Autocad, Cadra, Me10, TEL, Microsystem.

In 1991 the company begins two new challenges: the first was the CERMET certification, a series of rules and working methods made to guarantee superior quality in the projects. It was a guarantee of quality for all companies asking the office for a project. The second was the foundation of the collective-name company Trippa e Longhi S.N.C. The members were: Roffi, Piccaglia, Rabbi Renzo and of course Trippa Giorgio, still in business.

In the following years Roffi (1994) and Trippa (1996) got out of the company and Gerardo Cernera (1991) joined it. He was a former employee who returned after years spent in other companies.

In those years, Trippa e Longhi had as commitments all the automatic machines companies of the famous Bologna packaging valley: machines for condensers and batteries (Arcotronics), machines in the food industry (Corazza), powder treatment (IMA), casepackers, blistering machines, special machines and much more.

2000 – 2010

The new millennium kicked in with the three-dimensional CADs. Computer technology once again gave a big hand to the mechanics of the whole world.

All the collaborations of the past continued and new ones added: machines which metallize the plastic film were designed, Sasib arrived with its whole range of cigarette machines and Intertaba came with the filter related parts.

There were also CIM with the production of magnetic cards, Wrapmatic and Casmatic with their huge machines; we like to remember the “big reams” machine as a success of that time.

Another noteworthy machine was the one for the packaging of Toblerone, which our technical firm has cooperated extensively.

2010 – today

These years are dominated by the use of 3D CADs that’s now mandatory.

Many companies also require structural and dynamic computer checks, they want to see the machine in action even before it’s built.

The technical firm Trippa e Longhi has changed, adapting to present times, but it remembers its origins, where it was not the computer which designed the machine, it was not with a command that you became aware of how much weight a motor could bring.

We combine quality and experience of a great past with speed security of an ever faster future!
